What if I told you there was a little shady beach, with a fun park, that was never busy right in Coquitlam? If it sounds too good to be true, well it almost is. Hockaday Park is my favorite park in Coquitlam, hands down. I *almost* didn't want to write this post because it is such a hidden gem.
Hockaday park has a small playground: a slide, exactly two swings (one tot, one fold older kids), a few spin-y things and a cool climbing wall that is fun for adults if your kids are too young to try. But the real magic of this park is the several (at least 3) little shady river beaches you discover along the trail.
We will often go here on sunny summer evenings with a picnic dinner, and stay a little past bedtime exploring the river. It is a beautiful, fun spot and never seems to be too busy (unlike Buntzen and Sasamat lake whose parking lots seem to fill up faster than you can say 'social distancing').
It's a great place to spend some time, I only wish they had washrooms!
