Rochester Park

If you haven't been to Rochester Park, you NEED to go. It is one of the coolest, most well designed parks in the Tri-Cities. Let's break down why.

Let's start with this great little tot play structure with a rolly slide for little ones.

Then there are some accesible disc-swings and a super long zip line.

And then we get to this play structure - which uses natural elements like wood and rope to create a great opportunities to play, balance, climb, take risks and have tons of fun. This is NOT your average playground!

AND THERE'S MORE! Just beyond the playground is this fantastic, truly crazy slide. The photos don't do it justice. Yes, I have tried it (trying to show my kid she didn't need to be scared) and yes it is very fun. Off to the left of the slide is a huge climbing wall. AND every time your kids want to go down the slide, THEY HAVE TO GO UP THE STAIRS to go down again! That's right, they will be so *tired* after playing here.

OK down a level there is ANOTHER playground that is a monkey bar lover's paradise.

BUT WAIT! We aren't through with you yet. Down another level is a spray park and a huge sand pit. Kids will love pumping the water, turning the chutes to make dams and playing with the channels. What kid doesn't love the amazing combo of sand and water??

And there's more features in this park - washrooms, trails, a skate park and covered picnic tables. If you haven't gone, you need to go!

When I was taking photographs a mom was kind enough to tell me some of the story of how this park turned out as amazing as it has: advocacy, community and involvement. She shared that parents of the adjacent school (including Coquitlam School Board Trustee Jennifer Blatherwick) lobbied for many of the elements of the park that make it so great. I think this park is a testament to what can happen when people get together and organize -- and their opinions and insights are listened to. People can make a difference and can make great things for our communities and kids to enjoy. To every person who made this park special: Thank you!
